Gone are the days when you could post a new page, and Google would find it straight away. In other words, unless you take action, your new or updated webpage may not get discovered promptly.
HOW MANY WEBSITES ARE ONLINE?
There are nearly two billion websites online. Moreover, new websites are coming online each day. Furthermore, by the time you have finished reading this article, thousands are coming online. On the other hand, this does not consider the number of individual web pages.
HOW MANY WEB PAGES DOES GOOGLE FIND?
To put this question in perspective, as of May 2014, Google indexed 35 trillion web pages. Furthermore, that number is likely to increase 10-fold through 2021 and 2022!
HOW MANY PAGES DOES GOOGLE FIND ON ‘MY WEBSITE’?
Here is a quick way to determine how many pages Google has indexed on your website by performing a Google Query String.
First, type the following in the Google search box or address bar. Site:domain-name.com. (Replace domain-name.com) with your web address.
Do not include HTTPS, HTTP, or www. Instead, type only your domain name.
I will demonstrate using my website as an example in the video below.
NOTE: The ‘sequence’ or ‘order of the pages’ found indicates which pages Google has found the most important or relevant in the Google search index. Please see the video below for specific details.
WEB PAGES HIDDEN AND NOT SEEN BY GOOGLE
In contrast, this does not even consider the amount of information Google cannot find! For example, this is content that is not accessible via a publicly available link. Termed the “Hidden Web,” there is information that Google cannot find.
The Hidden Web consists of everything from unpublished blog posts to public websites requiring a search query to get information results. Missing content from Google includes search results from online databases and password-protected content. For instance, corporate and government databases and even FaceBook posts.
Other examples include Web pages that are not linked to by any other public pages, and Websites that require subscriptions (like many newspapers) are often only partially indexed by Google.
HOW DO YOU TELL GOOGLE TO FIND A NEW PAGE?
You have created a new page to tell Google, and I will use this new article posting. See how I instruct Google to find and index my new web page in the video below!
IN CONCLUSION
There are other dynamic ways to get Google to find your new web pages. However, this method works best to ensure your new page gets noticed right away. Moreover, your new page gets indexed within 12 to 24 hours in most cases!
NOTE: 16 hours later, see the results in the video below.
