A
Solid Marketing Approach for Redesigning Your Website
There are many things to consider
when you redesign your website. Leveraging your content,
knowledge and expertise
are of primary importance.
We recently completed the website redesign
for Computer Networks, Inc. a computer and
software technology company based in Hampton Roads, VA. The
challenge was to present the breath and scope of their services
and present this information in a way that was easy to find
and navigate in their website.
Leveraging Your Content
The primary navigation in the old website
did not identify their core offering of services.
Old Website Navigation
We worked with Computer Networks to create
a global navigation and interior page links that presented
their core services on each page at first glance. These services
are also made to be accessible on sub-navigation's or ‘fly-outs'
giving visitors an alternate method for navigating.
Core Services are featured as links
in every website page.
Core Services are also accessible
in the global navigation as fly-out sub links..
Leveraging Your Knowledge and Expertise
Your existing, repeat customers use your
services because they know what you do and how you do it.
So how do you communicate this POTENTIAL clients?
Leverage your KNOWLEDGE - EXPERISE through case studies, testimonials
and white papers.
Working with Computer Networks, Inc.
we helped to leverage their highly useful and informative
technology reports by designing graphics and navigation, putting
this information at the finger tips of their website visitors.
Graphics were also added to the page
footers to support their expertise in Microsoft, Cisco, Dell,
Blackberry and VMWARE.

Footer links and graphics can be an
extremely important area of your website and are often overlooked.
This is where you can insert jump links to your locations
pages, display phone numbers, fax numbers, emails, and company
address information.
Other Website Enhancements
Other areas enhanced in the new website
redesign included;
~ On-page search optimization for
Google and the other guys.
Unique title meta-data and description meta-data information
was researched, planned and placed in every page of the website.
~ A clear separation between the
administrative navigation and services navigation.
Your Administrative links should contain the general information
for your business. You want to keep these links separated
from your Products or Services links so your visitors won't
have to browse through your administrative company links such
as Mission Statement when looking for your products or services.
~ Website Site (Table of Contents)
created.
This is important to have as a quick reference for your website
visitors as well as helping to enhance your websites’
presence over search engines. A sitemap is a quick road map
for the search engine robots and should have links to every
page in your website. An XML sitemap is also good to have,
but does nothing for your most important audience. ‘Your
visitors’. This is why Google states in their webmaster
guidelines; ‘Build web pages for humans, not search
engines.’
